Adagio Tea
September 21, 2008
I first found out about Adagio Teas through another food blog that I read, and was intrigued. Adagio is an online tea company, and sells all of their products through their website.
From there, it was only a matter of days before I got my hot little hands on some samples of Adagio’s line of flavored teas. Adagio sells black, green, oolong, white, and herbal teas, and boasts an impressively large selection of flavored black teas.
These teas are some of the more creative that I’ve seen, and include varieties like white cucumber, chocolate chip, and candy cane. I’ll admit that I don’t usually buy heavily flavored teas, generally opting for varieties of green and oolong (jasmine pearls is perhaps my favorite tea). However, it’s hard to resist the chocolate-chip studded mixture that came in my Adagio sampler, and the masala chai, which was laden with whole cloves and bits of other warm spices. This is no Celestial Seasonings, my friends.
So, how did they taste? The flavored teas that I’ve tried so far (most notably the ginger bread), are flavorful and smooth, and aren’t overpowered by spice. The oolong that I sampled, called Ali Shan, was wonderfully mellow and struck a lovely balance between strong black and grassy green teas.
One thing I particularly like about Adagio is their pricing scheme. Most of their teas are sold loose-leaf, and in a variety of sizes. They also include a price per cup, which is fantastic. These teas are very high quality, and are pretty reasonably-priced, even if you do spend more than you would for lowest common denominator bagged stuff. They are certainly more reasonable than many of the high-end teas you’ll find in gourmet shops.
Have you ever tried Adagio tea? I’d love to hear what you think.
